In order to further promote Party member education, carry forward the fine traditions of the Communist Party of China, and deepen the understanding and practice of the national spirit, all Party members, probationary members, and young backbones were organized on June 21, 2025, to visit the Sihang Warehouse Battle Memorial in Shanghai.

Stepping into the historic site of the Sihang Warehouse felt like traveling back through time to an era engulfed in war. The weight of history rushed forward, inspiring solemn reverence. Every brick and stone here bears witness to a tragic yet heroic past; every bullet hole silently accuses the invaders. This is not merely a warehouse—it is a monument to the enduring spirit of the Chinese nation.

In 1937, amidst the flames of the Battle of Shanghai, the Sihang Warehouse—a stronghold of reinforced concrete—became the last defensive position of the Chinese forces. Under the leadership of Xie Jinyuan, the soldiers withstood waves of fierce assaults from the Japanese army for four days and nights. They braved storms of bullets, held the ruins, and composed a tragic yet heroic song of resistance with their lives. Their valor created a legendary chapter in China’s War of Resistance and will forever be inscribed in the annals of the Chinese nation.

Perhaps because it has endured so much bloodshed 88 years ago, this concrete structure starkly contrasts with the sleek skyscrapers on both sides of the Suzhou Creek. Walking out of the warehouse and strolling along the riverbank, one sees the once blood-stained river now flowing quietly and peacefully. The waterfront path sparkles with sunlight on the rippling water, flanked by lush trees and fragrant flowers. The scenery on both sides unfolds like a painting.

We paused by the river, silently admiring this harmonious blend of nature and history. Here, one can feel the depth of the past and the tranquility of the present, as if the soul has undergone a unique baptism and uplift. It brings a deep awareness of the preciousness of peace.

More than 430 bullet holes and 8 shell impacts mark the outer walls of the Sihang Warehouse. These are not just remnants of war, but silent testimonies to how soldiers and civilians defended their homeland with flesh and blood. The Sihang Warehouse is not just a building—it is a living textbook, constantly reminding us: peace is bought with countless sacrifices. “Never forget history,” and “We must strengthen ourselves,” turning the spirit of the martyrs into the driving force for realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
